Mount Yatsugatake's ridgeline tinted red at sunrise over Yamanashi

Location & stay

Yatsugatake Is Home. Yamanashi Is the Route.

Students sleep in the highlands of Kiyosato, in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture — cool, green, and quiet at night. Excursions go out from there across the prefecture, including the Mt. Fuji region, and the group returns to the same base each evening.

Why Yatsugatake

The Yatsugatake highlands sit above the summer heat of the lowlands, with larch forest, open meadow, and long mountain views in every direction. It is a working landscape of farms, dairies, and small mountain communities rather than a resort, which is exactly why it suits a program built on curiosity and independence. Students can walk out of the door and be somewhere worth paying attention to.

Where Students Stay

The group stays together at one residential base in Kiyosato for the full program. Past programs have been hosted at Seisen-ryo. The venue and accommodation can vary by session, so the building, room arrangement, and how students are grouped are described in the session information emailed to accepted families. If accommodation needs could affect whether your child can attend, please contact us before applying.

How the Group Travels

Excursion days use chartered group transport from the base and back. Students travel together with staff, and the group is counted at every departure point. Travel instructions for each session are included in its pre-camp information.

Mt. Fuji and Yamanashi Excursions

Yamanashi holds far more than one mountain: lakes, vineyards, mountain towns, and the Mt. Fuji region to the south. Excursions are chosen each year for what they let students do and discuss, not only for the view. The Mt. Fuji area is a day destination the group travels to — the accommodation is in the Yatsugatake highlands, well to the north.
